I cannot assure you,
that I can make your wounds and scars disappear;
However I can assure,
that I shall try to create better memories;
That makes life a much more pleasant journey,
For we are but love trapped in these vessels;
And whenever we empty them,
we only make more place for love to fill us again.
– Advaita
The nicest people are left standing alone, hearts broken, dreams crushed, and many times lost in life. Why does this happen? Many times I have asked myself this question; the nicest people I have known were always scarred and had a disheartening incident in their past. And how each person reacts to such incidents, shapes their future selves. Most of them still remain nice people and some of them learn to distance themselves from people.
But, what is the truth? Most of them lose the ability to trust others like they did before. They cannot bare their hearts as easily, always afraid that they would be hurt, and left to deal with pain and be scarred again. This fear that seeps in, that is what I find the most unfortunate. We must make efforts to learn and overcome that fear, to dare to keep our hearts open. Why take such a risk? I am sure most of you would ask the same question. The answer I found in a quote from the book by Japanese author Haruki Murakami called Norwegian Wood, who wrote:
“What happens when people open their hearts? They get better.”
– Haruki Murakami
There were several other quotes from the book that truly resonated with me, and I am sure all of you would connect with them too. So I am going to share them along with a few thoughts of my own. I’m highlighting the quotes, so even if you find my thoughts boring you don’t miss out on the quotes! 😉
“Despite your best efforts, people are going to be hurt when it’s time for them to be hurt.”
– Haruki Murakami
I feel this quote is so true, it is undeniable! So many times I feel disheartened when someone close is heartbroken or sad, and I try my best to remedy the situation. But truth is one cannot really cure hurt, and it is perhaps one of the most troubling truths I have finally learnt to accept. Only time can heal some wounds, all I can do is travel along with them on the journey and make it as pleasant a ride as possible.
“What a terrible thing it is to wound someone you really care for and to do it so unconsciously.”
– Haruki Murakami
I think we all are a bit flawed as humans, maybe that makes us unique but also prone to make mistakes. My heart maybe in the right place, but I still make mistakes and end up hurting the people I care about. And since it happens unconsciously, it makes me feel terrible later. Saying sorry does not undo the damage, but I always try not to repeat the same mistakes and take efforts to make up for my silly behaviour as much as I can.
“I was always hungry for love. Just once, I wanted to know what it was like to get my fill of it — to be fed so much love I couldn’t take any more. Just once. ”
– Haruki Murakami
This is a quote that all of us would love to experience. And I hope all of us do get such an opportunity in life, and may we grab it with both hands!
“Letters are just pieces of paper,” I said. “Burn them, and what stays in your heart will stay; keep them, and what vanishes will vanish.”
– Haruki Murakami
This quote is just fascinating! I’ve written a few letters to people I cared about; I hope they read this quote some day and find it fascinating too.
“So what’s wrong if there happens to be one guy in the world who enjoys trying to understand you?”
– Haruki Murakami
This quote is also something I wanted to share. I know most girls would find such a guy creepy, but is it really that bad if someone wants to know the real you? I do understand that not every guy is interested in getting to know the real you, but there is a difference between curiosity and understanding. I believe some guys do deserve a chance, after all isn’t that what romcoms teach us all about? 😛
“Which is why I am writing this book. To think. To understand. It just happens to be the way I’m made. I have to write things down to feel I fully comprehend them.”
– Haruki Murakami
As a writer, most of you blogger friends would connect with this one the most. Even though I don’t think of myself as a writer, this quote forced me to think. And I do feel writing as a means of expression is quite fulfilling for me, due to the inherent need to comprehend my thoughts. So I may write what I think, but at times, what I’ve written made me think!
What did you think of my poem and thoughts? Please feel free to share your thoughts and insights; it is always a pleasure to hear from all of you, my dear blogger friends. 🙂
– Cheers from your fellow blogger, Advaita.

My intention was less of a post and more of a conversation with the reader! And you caught me, because I do like long leisurely walks when talking to someone and that was what I was going for here 😉👍

Fantastic, all of it. 🙂 I definitely think love is endless, and we can be open to many different types and opportunities for it. Just have to keep the heart opening even when it seems we can’t anymore. You never know who will walk in.

The thing is that I don’t have any! I’ve hard time understanding love, let alone have opinion on it.
Love is grumpy adult who needs to sort out his priorities. I guess that’s the only opinion I’ve. xD

When you ain’t sure of something, make a joke out of it. That way, you will sound less of an idiot. Or more? What’s your take? xP
Not soon enough, though. You will have to wait for years and years for that to happen. xD

I always make sure to make a joke out of everything 😜😂 Idiot or not, it sure makes things easier to live 😂👍
Years and years? I’m not sure it will be that long. Love just smacks you suddenly when you least expect it! So don’t think you can escape it’s claws that easily. Cupid is always on the hunt for prey 😂😛

I believe Love is transient, it does not stay in one place for too long. So the love you feel today is probably not the same one you felt a year ago. I think it flows from soul to soul, perpetually in motion! 😉

I really loved this poem. I completely agree when he says that we cannot take away the scars and wounds but can make new memories. I feel that making new memories can help someone heal and although that scar will forever be there, at least one will no longer feel as upset as they previously been.
Check out my page when you get the chance, I have a poem that is more so about self confidence. Feel free to interact with me and check out some of my previous post as well ! 🙂

Thank you Tanya! I am happy to hear that Murakami and Norwegian Wood is a favourite of yours too ☺️👍
I wanted to write a simple poem and it ended up being a bit insightful, reminded me of Murakami so I went back to his book and reading it again I felt like I had to share his and my thoughts.
